August beige blocks

I finished the August tan blocks (Rainbow scrap challenge) ...then I decided to make the orange and pink spool blocks so that I could get this spools quilt finished. But, now that the top is together, I think it might need a fun border. Maybe some bobbin blocks bordering the spools?

And these are the rest of the tan/beige/cream blocks.

Now back to my other SIX projects.....

July is blue

Blue blocks are being stitched up...

Lots of blue blocks!
Cherry Festival is happening downtown....crowds, congestion, traffic...so I'm happily staying home and sewing.

I also have this top ready for quilting...and it just so happens that it is the UFO of the month for July...perfect! I should have this months projects wrapped up quickly.

And this is much better that carnival lights...I may just stay home all month :)

June is YELLOW

The scrappy color for June is yellow so I'm digging those out. This is one of three quilts I'm making in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge...see the button on the left sidebar of this page. Here's two of the four blocks I did for this quilt,

It's surprising how much yellow I DONT have. But there's enough for these blocks with leftovers for my spool blocks, which I haven't cut yet and my scrap jar stars.
As I stitch the yellow blocks, I'm using HST scraps as leaders and enders.
I have quite a pile of those! I cut my scraps into strips then cut strips into squares or triangles. These are 4" finished half square triangles.

Here's where the HSTs end up:
As I get enough for a row, I add it on....need at least five more rows for a 64" square quilt. It will probably be much larger than that ...I have SOOO many scraps!

Early sewing on a Scrappy Saturday

Got up early to sew a bit before work. Working on more Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks in aqua. When I figured out how many blocks I would need for this quilt I figured about 64. So if I have 10 colors that's about 6 each...maybe 7 or another color. I have 5 purples...and pieces to make one more. Same with my aqua/sea green. I really like the blues...any blues ...might do one or two extra aqua.

I put a pattern for this block on my February 18th blog entry... scrappy block tutorial

As I was digging through my aqua scraps I found this old piece of Peter Pan fabric. It's REALLY old!  Quite possibly from the 80s. I'm inserting a little here and there. Sure hope it doesn't bleed. I know I prewashed it years ago...crossing my fingers.

Ready to stitch up a couple more then I've got to leave...wish I could spend more time quilting!

Cutting up scraps

If you want to join in the fun and clear out some scraps --> RSC17 LINK!
It was another really snowy day up here in northern Michigan so SCRAP CUTTING was the job for the day. I'm doing the Rainbow Scrap Challenge #RSC17 with SOSCRAPPY on blogspot.
Job #1...open those overstuffed bins...YIKES!
I put all my magazines and books together...all my patterns together, unless they belonged to a UFO. Dumped a ton of scraps on the floor and started pressing.

See that bin to the left of the ironing board? ALL SCRAPS!!
Job #2....  cut 1-1/2, 2, 2-1/2, 3, 4-1/2 and 5" strips....plus my usual 1/2 inch pieces for crocheting my rag rug.

Job #3 ...start another Rainbow quilt (there are going to be at least 3 with all the scraps I have), I made a tester block for a spools quilt that I designed on EQ last night. I had a large piece of navy backing...almost 2 yards...leftover from something (?) so this will be the background.

Not sure what kind of border I will do ...just tried this one out.
These are 12" blocks. I have enough of the gray spool top and bottoms to do 20 blocks so I think I'll need borders to make this a good sized lap quilt.

JOB WELL DONE!!
My shelves look so much better...there's actually some room to spare! Didn't expect that!

Latest projects

I've been working on 4 quilts lately. This yellow one was completely finished a fews days ago.  This "square in a square " q...
