September blocks

The color for September (for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge) is blue but since I had already made blue blocks, I decided I'd do brown. I know, I said I don't really care for brown but I needed one more color in this quilt. It was between gray, brown and black. Black seemed to intense and gray not strong enough so I did warm browns.

I also made one more of green, orange and pink. That gave me enough blocks for a small quilt. I'm going to sew the blocks together now then give it a nice wide white border and then.. ? ...Maybe one more border after that of HSTs.... Or maybe just a bright binding.
I also made one brown "Building Blocks" block and one in gray. I have a total of 10 of those. They're getting packed away until January. Next year I'll do 10 more, then set them on point for another rainbow quilt. I'm getting quite a collection of rainbow quilts. One is going to a great neice (one already did) and one is for me to keep. No idea what I'll do with the rest. They're just such bright and fun tops to make.

June is YELLOW

The scrappy color for June is yellow so I'm digging those out. This is one of three quilts I'm making in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge...see the button on the left sidebar of this page. Here's two of the four blocks I did for this quilt,

It's surprising how much yellow I DONT have. But there's enough for these blocks with leftovers for my spool blocks, which I haven't cut yet and my scrap jar stars.
As I stitch the yellow blocks, I'm using HST scraps as leaders and enders.
I have quite a pile of those! I cut my scraps into strips then cut strips into squares or triangles. These are 4" finished half square triangles.

Here's where the HSTs end up:
As I get enough for a row, I add it on....need at least five more rows for a 64" square quilt. It will probably be much larger than that ...I have SOOO many scraps!

Hand and machine stitching

It's been a busy week or two here in northern MI. Al and I were both sick with a 24 hr stomach flu that was nice enough to visit every family member and more.
So while in bed I had time to hand sew bindings on. I sent the quilt above... The modern solid sampler quilt... on to its new home at my daughters house.

The Dr. Seuss hexagon quilt is finished for Henry. This is UFO for January ...#3 out of 12 that I will try to finish this year.  http://www.patchworktimes.com/ufo-2017/

Now scraps were getting out of hand so I joined the Rainbow Scrap Challenge but to get rid do as many scraps as I have I need to make quilts not blocks. This top was finished but then I looked at it and looked at it...I decided I wanted a border.

So I cut 60 degree triangles out of the leftover purples and grays.

I haven't decided on points in or points out but I'll definitely be adding a border. I may add a little strip of gray before the border to keep the triangles from touching the plus signs....and then maybe a final border in gray to keep the binding from cutting into the triangles. SOOO...now I'm nowhere near done but as always I'm enjoying the creative process.
