Quilting, reading, relaxing....

Still quilting the quilt....
The weather has been SO wet lately...perfect quilting weather but it's also arthritis weather...so I quilt a bit then read a bit. And every so often I just get lost in memories. This quilt is full of them. Little pieces of Al's shirt, Lisa's dress, 80's and 90's fabrics that I never got around to using...or used and these are the leftovers.
Then there's pieces that Lisa bought me as a birthday present. Those were feedsacks. Some were REALLY tiny (but so CUTE) that I was only able to squeeze out one or two 1-1/2" squares.

So it's coming along but very slowly.
Like now...my back hurts so I'm going to take a coffee/book break.
The quilting will definitely be done today....I'm sooo close.

Collage class, quilting and sewing surprises for daughters

Last Saturday I taught a Collage Class. We really had a great time. This class used Laura Heine patterns like the one I made... Emerson Dog. The ladies all had different Laura Heine patterns.... a moose, the cat, the dress, a flamingo, the elephant, the pigs and two of my favorites: Henrietta the hen  and the Rooster (not sure his name).
I cant wait to see all of these become quilts.  This class will be repeated in June. I may make another collage myself. Im thinking about that rooster...he's really beautiful.
So after class I decided to start quilting a quilt ....this top was finished in April and I'd love to have the FMQ done this month so that I have a large finish. It's been a while. This is the bow tie scrap quilt and I really do love it. It's probably going to become a picnic/beach quilt.

So in between quilting and cleaning my sewing room (it really needed it!) I started a small sewing project. When my younger daughter was up visiting, she showed me environmentally friendly pads for periods. You stitch a cotton layer, 2 flannel layers and a water repellent bottom layer together ....add snaps to attach to panties and you're done. She bought hers at a store but I figured we could make them easy enough. So I purchased the fabrics and snap...

This is a finished one below:

It snaps around the panties...pretty fabric faces up....snap down. That white fabric is the water repellent stuff. It's the same fabric that is used with baby diapers which should be my next project. Since the other daughter just delivered a son and she's going through diaper after diaper, I think this would be a good money saver. These pads were Super easy. These sell for about $15 dollars each at the health food store... I think I can make her about 6 for about the same money. Im sure the diapers cant be all that much harder.

Free motion quilting my scrappy HST quilt

My HST quilt top is basted. Time to get it quilted.

I picked a soft pink/peach fabric for the backing...it's quiet enough that it won't fight with all the design on the front.

The white thread and swirls aren't very visible on the front....
But they show up on the back.

It's about 3/4 of the way done...probably going to take a few day to complete. My back gets really tired if I try to do too much in one day. AND it's hot out...not the time of year to be buried under a
quilt.

And when it gets too hot and I'm not quilting, I'm playing with my favorite little man, Henry.

Finished another scrappy spool block

This blog post is kind of an experiment...
I'm trying to see if I can post from my phone.

I finished making my scrappy blocks and this red spools
block was the final one for this month. Now that it's done I can get to work on this months UFO. Below are some of the scrappy blocks...purple for January, aqua for February and red for March.

The UFO is number 5 and on my list and it's a 30s reproduction
quilt that I started about a year ago to use up scraps. As is usually the case, it didn't make a dent in the pile😩 I could probably make a dozen more... I'll post a picture of it when I get it taped to my floor for basting.

Another UFO that needed to be quilted finally moved to the top of my list. I need to pin baste my UFO of the month but this Scrappy Trip Around The World was hogging all my pins....so I'm quilting this so that I can pin the other...

Latest projects

I've been working on 4 quilts lately. This yellow one was completely finished a fews days ago.  This "square in a square " q...
